Dry eyes is a common problem. Working on laptops, texting and reading on the phone and air-conditioning are now part of our daily lives. Add on nights of poor sleep, menopause or Lasik and for other some others, thyroid or autoimmune conditions and the dryness becomes literally depressing.

 

Why is it that you have been using eye drops every day for a long time and yet the dry eyes is not cured? What I am going to tell you is fairly new research. Let us start from the beginning. The tear film has an inner layer of water and an outer layer of water-proofing of oil. We need a good layer of oil to prevent the water from evaporating. 75% of the reason for dry eyes is meibomitis/marginal gland disease also known has blocked oil glands which means that the problem is with the oil layer of the tear film. That explains why water eye drops are not curing the dry eyes.

 

Why do we develop blocked oil glands? Because of laptop use and using our eyes excessively , we get dry eyes which means that the eye produces more tears to compensate which means producing more water and oil. Water most of us can produce but when we make too much oil, the quality of the oil changes to become from like olive oil to like thick sebum very similar to our skin when we develop white heads. 

In order to re-create a good oil layer, we need to unblock those white heads also called meibomitis on the eyelid margin so that your natural oil can flow through.
